Beginning dance at age 3, owner and director Brandi Mather brings 40 years of experience in the dance world and a lifelong passion for performing, creating, and sharing her love for dance with others. She began teaching and choreographing at 16 years old, and over the decades, dance has taken her from the stage to the classroom and from student to mentor.

Growing up, Brandi not only trained at her home studio, but was also able to travel and experience other opportunities in Chicago, Orlando, Las Vegas, and Gatlinburg. Those experiences shaped her belief that quality training, performance opportunities, and a love of the arts can have a lasting impact on a dancer's life.

​

Brandi's own performance background includes years of theatre, musical theatre, show choir, and competitive dance. At Harlem High School, she was a member of Choraleers and the elite Voices of Harlem show choir. After graduation, she returned to Harlem to work on choreography for Voices, Choraleers, and the school's Spring musicals. She later served as a dance instructor in the Fine Arts Program at Harlem Middle School's Hoffman campus until the program's conclusion.

As a choreographer, Brandi has created countless routines for studio showcases and recitals, school shows, community performances such as the Rockford Ice Hogs and NIU, and award winning competitive routines. Brandi has also worked on numerous local productions over the years: most recently for the West Side Show Room and currently for Children's Theater Project.

​

Brandi is also entering her seventh year as a partner studio for Dancing with the Rockford Stars, where she and her celebrity couples have earned four mirrorball wins so far. In 2026, she was honored as a nominee for the Rockford Area Arts Council Educator of the Year, recognizing her commitment to arts education in the community.

Brandi continues to expand opportunities for students both inside and outside of the studio. In addition to directing Beauty in Motion Dance Arts, she teaches within the Fine Arts Program at Machesney Elementary and is expanding BMDA's educational outreach through dance elective sessions at Spectrum Progressive School.

​

Brandi also serves as a volunteer for the Golden Apple Foundation of Rockford reflecting her commitment to education and expanding opportunities to students in the local area.  

​

What Brandi cherishes most is being a teacher who gets to introduce someone to dance, watch them discover what they're capable of, and help them find a place where they belong.

​

Beauty in Motion Dance Arts, started as an "eventually" goal and turned into a necessity during Covid uncertainties.  Brandi's dream was always to have her own studio and create a space where students and families can be accepted, learn, grow, and feel at home.  Brandi believes that being a small studio is what makes BMDA special and able to fulfill this dream. Small doesn't mean less. It means more connection, more individual attention, more opportunity to be known, and more room for every dancer to be part of our family.
